Warning: serious grammar geekdom ahead.
As long as I’ve been a writer, it’s been a hot topic: do you put one space or two between sentences? (If you’re a non-writer, you just fell asleep.)
Like many people in this article, I grew up using the two-space rule, and I had style guides on my side. Then, one day, AP Style decided one space would be sufficient. Die-hard two spacers revolted. One spacers stood their ground.
Then, science proved one-spacers wrong; people are able to process quicker information when there are two spaces between sentences.
So here we go… my first “two-space” sentence in about two decades. I hope you enjoy.
